I was diagnosed with Renal cancer and secondaries in my lungs in October 2016 after a visit to The Royal for food poisoning. This was a tremendous shock to me as I had no symptoms and had just walked 110 miles from Lindisfarne to Hexham. I was admitted to hospital in the next 3 weeks and had my kidney and adrenal gland removed. Dr Das kindly visited me during this period and said I would become one of his patients after 6 weeks of healing. He was extremely understanding and realised I was extremely anxious. I visited him at the Royal, Derby in December and the prognosis was fully explained to me together we a plan of my treatment. This reassured me to a certain extent and I was prescribed Pazopanib which would be taken in tablet form daily. The side effects were explained thoroughly to me. The first three months were difficult and at one point I was admitted to hospital with an infection and had to be taken off the drugs for a few weeks. The tablets cause high blood pressure, and an under active thyroid together with red hand and foot syndrome. I have tablets to keep this under control. Dr. Das was extremely reassuring during the first 3 months of treatment and it was hoped my body would respond to the treatment. I have visited Dr Das and his nurse, Leslie, every 28 days for repeat tablets and an honest discussion of my feelings and reactions. Dr Das has always been reassuring and during the last 2 years 6 months I have responded extremely well and I also learned that further treatments can now be administered if I fail to respond to this drug. I am able to lead a completely normal life, and, after a few months of trial and error take my tablets about 5.a.m. every morning which seems very successful. I am lucky that I do not have to suffer radiotherapy and chemotherapy with their side effects. I cannot thank Dr.Das and all the staff at the oncology department at the Royal for their ongoing treatment and support. I now feel I have a future and can enjoy my life for the moment. If anyone reads this and would like to get in touch I shall be only to willing to share my experiences of my treatment. Celia England A very grateful patient

I have been under the care of Dr. Das since December 2017 when I was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of prostate cancer. From the first I had every confidence in his radiotherapy programme. He was excellent in putting my concerns to rest by giving me the confidence to undergo my course of radiotherapy. Subsequent follow-ups have continued in a similar vein. Today my PSA is zero. Any concerns I have have been sensitively addressed. Thanks to Dr. Das’ professional approach I am now getting back to normal health. John Lear

I was in a difficult mental position when I met Dr Das, but his calm and complete style filled me with confidence and made a hard time much easier. And that has continued throughout his treatment and advice.
